APA plans to solve cash woes

Africa Moyo
Alliance for the People’s Agenda (APA) presidential candidate, Dr Nkosana Moyo, has launched his manifesto in which he promises to deal with the cash challenges in the short, medium and long-term.

Zimbabwe is battling cash shortages, which have seen the Reserve Bank of calling on the transacting public to use plastic money and electronic transfers to reduce demand for physical notes.

“Good money is disappearing from the market.
“APA has a plan to deal with the current crisis over the short, medium, and long-term. We must end this long era of wasteful recurrent spending and return our country to fiscal sanity,” reads the APA manifesto which was launched on Wednesday.

Further, Dr Moyo has promised to transform Zimbabwe into a “magnificent” country by 2030, an agenda already being speared by Zanu-PF.

He said citizens would be “earning decent incomes, living lives of quiet contentment in a land famed for its beauty and peace…a winning nation”, by 2030.
Dr Moyo said to achieve the vision, citizens should have “faith”.

“It calls for self-confidence, resilience, and tenacity of purpose, each a trait demonstrated by our history.

“We defeated colonialism and will overcome this dark period in our nation’s history. What is needed now is a visionary, competent, and ethical political leadership, which is people centred, to deliver the gains of independence by our Golden Jubilee.

“APA presents such a leadership of global experience and humility with a vision to work for all Zimbabweans,” reads the manifesto.

The plan to transform Zimbabwe into a middle income country by 2030 has already been set in motion by Zanu-PF through its leader, President Mnangagwa.

Dr Moyo wants Zimbabweans to vote for a president, who will set-up an administration that is intimately conversant with the challenges bedeviling the country.

Freedom and jobs
APA says many people live with little hope of finding a decent job. Dr Moyo said several people are forced to endure the indignity of being involuntary street vendors, and are constantly harassed by the police and “abused by politicians”.
He added that others are “restricted” to communal farms or commercial farms but without essential inputs.

“An upgrade in the quality of life of Zimbabweans, supported by good jobs and incomes, is long overdue.

“Our country needs a tide of rising economic activity to deliver the high quality public education and healthcare that is worthy of our people.”

An APA government will also create work and support small and medium enterprises.
The extent of the support is unclear, but the Zanu-PF regime has provided funding and operating spaces such as the Glenview Area 8 Complex for SMEs.

Government also has put in place a ministry that oversees the operations of SMEs.
APA says every Zimbabwean who can work, should be afforded the opportunity to be employed or to run their own businesses and contribute to the national purse by paying reasonable taxes to the fiscal.

Service delivery
APA wants to set up a government on the basis of meritocracy.
It says the country’s public service and bureaucracy should be free of corruption and incompetence.

The APA manifesto says once elected into office, their government would introduce a performance culture into the country’s bureaucracy supported by appropriate performance indicators.

This aspiration is in tandem with what President Mnangagwa is already preaching.
President Mnangagwa has declared zero tolerance against corruption and several bigwigs have been dragged to court on charges of corruption.
The President has also exhorted civil servants to work harder and abandon the “business as usual” approach.

Sound economic management
APA promises to solve the current money supply and liquidity problems in the short, medium and the long-term.
The party says it plans to address the current cash shortages and loss of value of bond notes “so that each Zimbabwean can get their money in any amount; at any place; at any time”.

It is unclear how APA plans to resolve the cash shortages.
