The Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) will this weekend host an Under-13 International Invitational Tournament at Standard Chartered Sports Club, Harare.

Featuring six teams from Harare and Zambia, the tournament will see over 100 of some of the most talented kids in the region.

The academy’s founder, Nigel Munyati, said they will be celebrating the second year of hosting the tournament as they thrive to provide social development support for Zimbabwe’s disadvantaged children through sport and academic education.

“We are happy to be hosting the tournament for the second year. AYSA is focusing on this foundation stage as a critical element in a successful youth development programme. Identifying and recruiting young talent is such an important part of development because if you start with the wrong players, you are pretty much stuck, as adding players later upsets the development programme,” he said.

Last year the tournament invited five teams: Harare International School, CAPS, Legends Academy, Friendly Academy, and Step Forward Academy, and CAPS were the winners.

This year AYSA has invited Lusaka Cubs Academy, Auckland Academy, BN Academy, Zengeza Busters Academy and Legends Academy.

Munyati said AYSA’s recruitment focus is on identifying boys and girls with the right football intelligence, or potential to develop the critical intelligence. ‘

“The academy has an enrolment of 110 boys and girls who are in the U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19 teams.

“The bulk of our 2018 graduating U-19 team have been placed with teams in Spain, South Africa, and Zimbabwe’s PSL and Division 1 teams.

Since 2009 AYSA has placed 75 male and female players in Europe, South Africa and other African countries and is the single largest contributor to all National Teams,” he said.

The Aces Youth Soccer Academy (AYSA) is a sport and academic development institution for boys and girls aged between 10 and 18.

AYSA is the football development arm of the Aces Youth Sport & Soccer Foundation Trust (AYSSF). Since its establishment on February 2001, the Academy has provided social development support for Zimbabwe’s disadvantaged children through sport and academic education. Without AYSA’s intervention, many would end up on the streets and inevitably fall victim to drugs, crime and HIV/AIDS.

The academy has an enrolment of 110 boys and girls, who will spend six to seven years with us.

Since inception, AYSA has provided critical social development intervention; paying for school fees, books, uniforms, and providing supplementary tuition support for approximately 350 players over an average six years.

The academy runs football-coaching programmes in four age groups: U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19 while for girls team it only U16 and 18. AYSA participates in the Harare Junior Football League and U-21 Challenge League.
