Fbc Holdings Limited last week stepped up efforts to rehabilitate the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) sporting facilities through sponsorship of the university’s inaugural gold day.

This comes as corporates are coming up to support wellness and healthy lifestyles through sport and healthy eating.

Through its flagship, FBC Bank, the group channeled $36 000 towards the golf day.
Of this amount, $21 000 was allocated towards the actual golf day, while a further $15 000 was given as start up to the fund, which seeks to raise money to refurbish NUST’s sports facilities.

Group head of marketing Priscilla Sadomba, said sporting activities were an integral part of the education system, creating scope for the financial services group to chip in for growth of the extra-curricula activities.

This was also part of the group’s social responsibility programmes, as they foster relations with their communities.

“FBC Bank believes in building communities, having established a strong tradition of giving back to the society.

“Our NUST Golf Day sponsorship demonstrates our firm commitment towards fostering creative and innovative ways of making a positive impact on the wellbeing of our key stakeholders and the local communities in which we serve,” said Sadomba by email.

She added the bank enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the institution of higher learning and would remain committed towards creating product offerings that meet the needs of the university in a challenging environment.

“Sports or extracurricular activities are an integral part of the education system across the globe. As a responsible Corporate Citizen, we have made education the cornerstone of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at all levels.

“Consequently, we firmly believe that our commitment towards modernising NUST’s sports facilities will go a long way towards promoting the holistic development of the university’s students,” said Sadomba.

This also comes as Government has also indicated the need to rehabilitate infrastructure at tertiary institutions in a programme that should see development of staff and student accommodation, laboratories as well as sport facilities.
