HARARE – CORTEVA, an agriscience company is partnering with local companies to provide agricultural inputs to local farmers.

Speaking on the sidelines of its launch recently, CORTEVA regional director for Africa and the Middle East Prabdeep Bajwa said the company was devoted to providing for and serving the needs of local farmers to ensuring that they produce quality products.

“What we will bring to the farmers is a set of solutions which is suited to their farms in maize seed, insecticide fungicide and herbicide chemistries plus we bring a lot of support and we want to make sure that we bring the best knowledge to the farmers on how to grow their crops,” he said.

The company has also brought about job opportunities for Zimbabweans in the technical team as well as the manufacturing plant.

“We have a full-fledged team over 50 people in the country plus more in terms of people who are deployed in the plant so we have a technical team that will bring fantastic solutions to the farmers to improve productivity.”

“The plan is to service all areas of Zimbabwe so we have people on the ground already and we’re having more coming in,” said Mr Bajwa.

Last year incidences of fall armyworm were reported across the country, with Government giving farmers chemicals such as Carbaryl 85 Wettable Powder to curb the pest infestation and researches were also done by the Plant Protection and Research Institution.

Country leader for Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi Caiphus Muyambo said that their products will help minimise the devastating effects of fall armyworm and reduce costs that farmers will have to incur as they practice their farming and that reducing such situations will help the agricultural sector flourish.

“There is a problem with fall armyworm these days and most farmers are losing their yield to fall armyworm. So because of this merger we have a product to control fall army worm”

“If you go around and ask farmers they will tell you that they spray almost 14 times to try and control fall army worm with this product you only spray twice and that’s what we are doing to grow our market to our farmers.”
