Renowned geologist David Murangari and Mabasa Hawadi, an official in the Mines Ministry are set to retain seats on the new board of the Minerals and Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe expected to be announced soon, a senior official has said.

Former board chair Nompumelelo Mellyora Abu-Basutu is set to bounce back on the MMCZ board, a state agent charged with marketing the country’s minerals except gold and silver.

“This is timely as it is expected to bring sanity to the corporation, which since 2010 has been operating without a substantive general manager,” the official, who asked not be named as he is not authorised to talk to the media, told Business Weekly.

Currently, Mr Masimba Chandavengerwa and Dr Nomsa Moyo alternate as acting general manager. Other board members expected to be appointed are Mr Ignatius Tichiwangana, Chamber of Mines chief executive Isaac Kwesu and Mr Mukogo.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Winston Chitando, who is away on business in Canada, is expected to announce the board when he returns, the official added.

Recently, Chitando indicated that he was going to make several board changes of entities under his ministry, including at coal mining firm Hwange Colliery Company Limited.

Last week, Chitando appointed the new board members for the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) and Zimbabwe Mining Development Company (ZMDC).

The new ZCDC board members include Killian Ukama who is the board Chairperson Elliah Muchemwa, Elizabeth Nerwande-Chibanda, Zenzo Nsimbi, Colonel Chiadzwa, Alexander Mukwekwezeke and Retired Colonel Niya Mtombeni.

The ZMDC board will be led by Peter Chimbodza and other members are Wellington Pasipamire, Richard Jaure, Charles Tahwa, Reason Mandimuka, Slava Chella and David Murangari.

MMCZ board is currently chaired by Mr Ambrose Made and deputised by Murangari.
Others board members are Catherine Machokoto, Brains Muchemwa and Bertha Muzangaza.

MMCZ was established through an Act of Parliament and began operations in March 1983.
It is an exclusive agent for selling of all minerals produced in the country except silver and gold.
