GWERU – South African based company Morning Trading has expressed interests in setting up an asphalt plant in Gweru as a joint venture project with Gweru City Council.

Morning trading has also partnered a local construction company, Tavaka Civil Engineers in the project which is expected to also create employment for the city.

Under the project, Morning Trading expressed interests in partnering the local authority in exploiting its quarry deposits in the outskirts of Gweru.

Morning trading Investors last week met Gweru City Council management to formally express their interests.

Tavaka Civil Engineers corporate services director, Mr Sabastian Mubvumbi confirmed that his company had invited the South African Investors to explore investment opportunities in the country and have shown interests in Gweru by virtue of its centrality geographically.

“We are more than willing to invest in Gweru, the city of progress. We will bring in the Asphalt plant with a capacity to produce 80metric tonnes of asphalt concrete together with the stone crushing plant.

We expect the relevant authorities to expedite the paperwork so that we bring the two plants and start production in the first quarter of 2019,” he said.

An asphalt plant is a plant used for the manufacture of asphalt, macadam and other forms of coated roadstone, sometimes collectively known as blacktop or asphalt concrete.

The plant manufactures hot asphalt paving mixtures. This hot asphalt is then transported to local construction sites, where it is used to pave roads, parking lots, and airport runways.

The plant comes at a time when the country has embarked on a road infrastructure upgrade.

Morning Trading executive director, Mr Mnqobi Nkomo said the company was willing to comply with all the laws and preconditions set in setting up such a facility.

“All the requested paperwork by council will be made available by next week. A local company will be tasked to carry out a feasibility study and avail the report so that we don’t lose on time,” he said.
