The MDC Alliance, a formation of seven Zimbabwean political parties has promised to “reverse the country’s 40 years of socio- economic decay” by pursuing democratic developmental policies if elected into power in the forthcoming elections in July.

“We are 40 years behind,” Tendai Biti (above), the MDC Alliance principal responsible for economic brief told Business Weekly yesterday. “We are going to pursue a democratic developmental transformation of our country.” When asked to elaborate, Biti, the former finance minister in the Government of National Unity declined, saying he would only comment further after the launch of their manifesto in the next two weeks.

“What I can only assure you is that it is a well-crafted manifesto, which I am confident that even the Zanu PF manifesto will not match ours. “This is not a slogan of campaigning but I am talking about what the MDC Alliance is there to offer.

MDC Alliance has been holding rallies around the country to drum up support ahead of the next harmonised elections with its leader, Nelson Chamisa emphasising the formation’s desire to pursue policies aimed at reviving the economic.

At a recent rally in Chipinge, Chamisa said the reforms will include raft of measures to encourage democracy, inclusive participation, a stable micro-economic system, public service reform, industrial transformation, economic empowerment agenda, the creation of a balanced economy and boosting foreign direct investors.
