Former Botswana president Ian Khama has implored Zimbabwe’s new administration to tackle corruption and embrace the rule of law and good governance if the country is to achieve a robust economic turnaround.

Khama was addressing delegates attending this year’s Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries conference being held here. Khama said while Zimbabwe already had what it needed to revive the economy such as human resource ‘‘with good work ethic, there was need to bring the culture of good governance and arrest corruption.

‘‘What Government needs to do is to reduce opportunities for corruption by ensuring efficiencies in the government,”said Khama. ”

‘‘Investors are also comfortable putting in their money where they know that there are no people who are above the law,”he added. Khama said now that the elections were over, Zimbabweans needed to embrace the new government. On Foreign Direct Investment, the former Botswana president said Zimbabwe should wary about fly by night investors, urging the authorities to ensure the “right”investment comes into the economy.

‘‘You need investors that are genuine . . . investors that add value to the economy . . . investments that create employment for the citizens,”said Khama. He expressed optimism about Zimbabwe’s turnaround prospects under the new administration.

I believe very strongly that this country has great potential to give its people prosperity.
