The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) has cast its net beyond the country in search of a new chief executive to steer the market forward. The ZSE said this week it was looking for a new CEO in Zimbabwe, the region and Diaspora.
This come after former CEO Alban Chirume left the exchange last year after he was sacked on various allegations.
ZSE chairperson Caroline Sandura told Business Weekly that recruitment process for a new CEO was now in progress and the exchange had cast its net wider into the region to get the best people for the job.
“We have gone wider this time, beyond the borders to look for the CEO. Zimbabweans in the Diaspora are free to apply for this job and we have cast the net wider so that we can get the best.
“There has been massive response from the interested candidates and at the moment I cannot give timelines as to when we will be shortlisting the candidates,” Sandura said this week.
“The legal issues raised by the past CEO will not deter us from looking for new leadership and at the moment we are still accepting applications from different candidates.
Among Chirume’s alleged transgressions were issues on how he terminated a website contract with local company Big Law and allegations he overrode the regulator and the board.
There has been a general consensus among certain sections of the capital markers that Chirume brought more chaos than development to the exchange with some describing his appointment as an error.
